Tea 42Winner – Labyrinth Holistic Café, Stockton on Tees

'Labyrinth is a new non-profit cafe in Stockton. Parts of Stockton are the most deprived in England (it's my home town so I can say that...) so I did not have high expectations. I was wrong!
Labyrinth is a delightful and unexpected oasis of friendly welcome and delicious food prepared to order with care by the knowledgeable and helpful staff. As a 100% gluten free cafe that caters for multiple allergens and dietary preferences in a severely deprived area of the country, it would be a worthy winner in its category. I loved it; I just wish it were my local!'

Highly Commended

Aroma Coffee House & Kitchen, Lyme Regis

Love in a cup

'Friendly local café in a little sea-side town, doing all it can to offer great freefrom food. Gluten free, dairy free, egg free – all very strong. Good-value, tasty dishes. Good allergen knowledge. Superb cakes. Relaxed, welcoming environment where whole family can enjoy tasty grub together.'

RainbowThe Rainbow Vegetarian Café, Cambridge

'A long standing Cambridge favourite with plenty of vegan and gluten free options. The food is homemade in style and the dessert range is wonderful! Gluten free sticky toffee pudding was more of a cake with a caramel sauce, but fantastic plus gluten free roulade, fruitcake and fig and raspberry treacle tart! Vegan and gluten-free cheesecakes always on the menu and this time it was chocolate and rose which was fabulous – tasted like Turkish delight!'

ÜGOT, York & Newcastle

'A young team who want to inject a young vibe into gluten-free – but all the staff have been trained in all allergens, not just gluten. Very friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Really excellent both hot and cold, gluten and dairy-free wraps and the best gluten-free muffin I have had in years! Great little station cafés. They say they want to expand south - I hope they do!!'

Commended

RainbowApple Tree Café and Garden Centre, Yeovil

'Bright, welcoming and unpretentious café. Plenty of options for gluten and dairy-free ready-made foods from well known freefrom suppliers. The staff were helpful and seemed very contamination aware while all the allergens and the suppliers were listed on the menu. A café where everyone will have a warm welcome and can enjoy a bite to eat, regardless of their dietary requirements.'
