Oscar & Bentley'sOscar & Bentley's, Canterbury

'So reassuring on the phone – I just knew
I was going to have a good experience
before I even arrived.

As a nut-allergic, dairy-intolerant coeliac, I
am not easy to feed but I was given a great choice of dishes all of which were gluten-free (because everything they do is) and seriously yummy. And they had a really interesting allergy friendy kid's menu – how exciting would that be for an allergic child who usually only gets offered one allergen-free option!

The food was absolutely delicious – no 'regular diner' would ever have realised that it was 'free' of anything at all. And excellent value for money – definitely a winner!'

Highly Commended

2 Oxfrod Place

2 Oxford Place, Leeds

'Lovely – slightly, but delightfully, old fashioned – and so caring about their customers. How great for coeliacs/ gluten-intolerants that gluten is totally excluded from the premises but really good control and choices for other allergies.

Love the daily updated spreadsheet (you can also download it from their site) allowing you to check your allergens against every dish on their really quite extensive menu. Beautifully cooked and well presented food. Really great 'home cooking' – lots of vegetarian and vegan choices – and good value!'

Commended

Filmore & Union, Wetherby

'Very exciting menu, especially if you are vegan and/or on a dairy or egg free diet – and lovely that they are wholly gluten-free in the evening. Shame they cannot also manage totally
GF in the morning and at lunchtime!

No mention of soya or nut allergies though – very relevant with such a great vegetarian/vegan menu. But very 'cool'
place to eat...'

Marine Hotel, Ballycastle,
Co Antrim

'How great to have a seaside, family hotel being so allergy aware.

Being in Ireland their menus do seem to be very focused on gluten but the staff are very allergen aware and keen to accommodate guests' other allergies.'

Restaurants Chains - Winner

Pizza ExpressPizza Express

'The one countrywide chain in which I know that, even with all of my allergies (nut, dairy, celery, soya and wheat) I can eat safely and enjoyably! The staff are always helpful and ready to check with the chef – and the gluten-free vegan pizza is a real treat!'

'Using only gluten-free flour for all of their pizzas so there is no contamination risk for coeliacs and gluten sensitives was just a genius idea – and really shows Pizza Express's committment to catering for their food sensitive customers.'

'Very comprehensive information on allergens on their website – and they appear to use very reassuringly allergen-aware protocols in all of their outlets.'

Lovely to have an attractive non-gluten-containing-ingredients menu with plenty of choice for those on GF diets. Bit of a shame they did not include just a few of the other 13 allergens too though!'
